First up, I got this email from Charlotte
“I’m trying to find the best deal on a Chromecast for my dad as an extra Christmas present. Can you recommend where to go to get one at a reasonable price say around £20.”
What is a Chromecast?
For those of you who don’t know what a Chromecast is, it’s a small device from Google that you plug into the HDMI socket in the back of your TV. You then connect it to your wireless internet and it let’s you stream videos and webpages from your computer, phone or tablet to the big screen. I’ve got one which I use to stream Netflix, Spotify and iPlayer from my iPad.
The best deals?
** Updated deals are available on this Chromecast offers page **
Now these retail at £30 and unfortunately Charlotte has just missed out on some great deals that bought it down to £18. That was part of the Black Friday madness and was one of the lowest ever prices. I’d expect it to drop again to around £20 in the sales – but that’s no good for Christmas.
One really good deal that is still available is to buy it through Wuaki.com. Here you purchase a digital box set and you’ll sent a Chromecast in the post. There are a three available, costing between £19.99 and £24.99. Even if you’re not fussed by the programmes on offer it’s a great price. However, they say it takes 21 days to deliver so there’s a good chance it’ll be after Christmas.
So if you have to have it before the 25th, you’re looking at full price at places like Currys.
However, you get three months of NOW TV for free when you register your device, worth £21 in their own right Plus £15 to spend at the Google Play store (music, apps, games etc), 90 days free access to Google Play Music (like Spotify) which is worth around £30 and a free digital copy of the first X-Men movie!
